Description

Introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird™ is one of the most distinctive and beloved acoustic guitars ever made. Carefully handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, by Gibson's expert lutherie team, the new Gibson Hummingbird Special is made in the USA and offered at a very attractive price. This model features a traditional square-cutaway body made of solid mahogany for the back and sides, as well as a solid Sitka spruce top reinforced by Gibson's traditional carved X-bracing. This wood combination delivers a warm, balanced tone with excellent dynamic range, perfect for all musical styles.

The Concert-depth body is slightly thinner than that of a Hummingbird Standard, resulting in a finer, more precise bass response that sits perfectly in the mix and also makes sound management easier. The neck is attached to the body with a compound tenon joint, and as with all Gibson acoustic guitars, it is glued on with hot animal glue. The neck also features a comfortable rounded profile. Its rosewood fingerboard has a 12-inch radius and features parallelogram-shaped mother-of-pearl inlays, one of the visual characteristics that makes the Hummingbird easily recognizable. The neck has 20 standard frets. The traditional rosewood "Belly Up" bridge has a TUSQ© nut. The nut and bridge pins are also made of TUSQ. High-quality Grover© Rotomatic© tuning machines ensure rock-solid tuning stability. The pickguard features a simplified version of the famous Hummingbird artwork.

The Hummingbird Special is finished with a satin nitrocellulose lacquer in the following colors: Retro Cherry Sunburst and Wine Red. It features an LR Baggs™ Element Bronze under-saddle piezo pickup and an active preamp with an easily accessible mouth-mounted volume control, so it's ready for stage and studio as soon as you take it out of the included premium soft case.
